THE
GOLD MINES OF GILPIN COUNTY, COLORADO
HISTORICAL,
DESCRIPTIVE AND STATISTICAL
SAMUEL
CUSHMAN and J. P. WATERMAN
CENTRAL
CITY: Register Steam Printing House, 1876 |
|
Original
printed cream-colored wrappers; 136 pages.
"...
Gilpin county, although the smallest county in the Centennial State
[1876], is universally conceded to contain a larger number of rich gold
mines than can be found elsewhere within equal limits. As it is the
spot where the History of Colorado began; as it is the place from which at
least five-eighths of the bullion product of the Territory has been
obtained, and as it has been the radiating point from which other mining
counties, and even mining Territories have been peopled, it is thought
deserving of a special history.
It
is the aim of the Publishers to give a brief and succinct account of the
gold business of this county, from the discovery of gold in 1859, to the
present time; to recall the early successes, showing the great available
wealth of the lodes and gulches; to trace the brilliant beginning and
disastrous ending of the speculative period; and to call especial
attention to the gradual revival, the constantly increasing success and
bright prospects of the business, under more favorable circumstances, and
under more skilled, economical and experienced management."
