"... My whole theory of writing
I can sum up in one sentence: An author ought to write for the youth of his own
generation, the critics of the next, and the schoolmasters of ever afterward
...." from The Author's Apology, THIS SIDE OF PARADISE,
1st edition, 3rd printing, 1920.

ALL
THE SAD YOUNG MEN
By
F. Scott Fitzgerald. New York: Charles Scribner's Sons,
1926. First edition. |
According
to Bruccoli, there were three printings of the first edition of this
book: 10,100 copies published February 26, 1926; 3,020 published in
March 1926; and, 3,050 published in May 1926. However, the
publisher did not differentiate these printings on the copyright page
and there have been no textual variants discovered. There have
been several "character-type" batterings noted on various
different pages; however, there is no way of discerning which are
precedent. |
This
book was dedicated to Ring and Ellis Lardner. Short stories
include: "The Rich Boy," "Winter Dreams," "The
Baby Party," "Absolution," "Rags Martin-Jones and
the Pr-nce of W-les," "The Adjuster," "Hot and Cold
Blood," "'The Sensible Thing'," and "Gretchen's
Forty Winks."
Condition of
book: original green cloth covers have some scuffing and light
soiling; gilt on spine bright; end-papers are clean with NO writing or
bookplates; internal pages are clean; spine strong but not tight;
overall, very good condition.
