Cripple
Creek, Colorado
Plat
Map by W.C. Willits,
May
1896 |
This
is a very, very detailed map of the Cripple Creek town plat completed
right after Cripple Creek's highly destructive fires if April 1896.
All town lots are shown. The footprints of all known
buildings and other structures are shown on each lot, including business
buildings, homes, barns, sheds, the Florence and Cripple Creek Railroad
Depot, the Midland Terminal Railroad Depot, the National Hotel, and a
multitude of other structures. Each street and alley is shown, as
well as the name of each. Each town addition is demarcated as well
as its name designated. Railroads, water and sewer lines, and
mining claims are also noted. Also the boundaries of each Cripple
Creek fire are noted: April 25, 1896 and April 25, 1896. |
Dimensions
of map: 37 inches by 38-1/2 inches. I believe the border has been
trimmed off this original map; however, it was the typical black border
Willits used on his maps. And, although that trimming does detract
from the original map somewhat, there is no information lost.
Over all
condition: good plus to very good. There is no missing
information; however, there are several small chips of paper missing
along the outer edges. Also, the paper has darkened and the cloth
has stiffened and wrinkled. Several places along the bottom of the
map show some discoloration. The map is fragile, yet complete and
all details easily readable. A very good example of an exceedingly
scarce map.
